Find out what to do in the ring
A common question is what colour tweed and tie to wear. The short answer is that it doesn't matter - there are no particular rules about what colour to wear. Tweed colour does go in fashions - a few years ago everyone wore fawn, then green was very fashionable, and now browns and loud overchecks are commonly seen. How much attention you want to pay to fashion is entirely up to you, but here are some pictures of various colour combinations to give you an idea of what goes well.
This site won't say 'never wear this' or 'this looks better', I'll just give you some examples of what other people are wearing. A good way to choose a tweed is to take a good, representative photo of your horse into a shop and see what you like against the swatches. Type comes into it as well - aim for a bit subtler with the plain tack classes, while you can go brighter (shirt, breeches, tie as well) for classes with coloured browbands.
The most common colours seen at higher level shows are green and varying shades of brown - blue is not seen as often. The reason for this is that historically, the cheap synthetic tweeds only came in blue, and the posher and more expensive, better quality ones were green or brown. So although there are some lovely blue ones around these days, the association has stuck.
